Making a Blank!
a. Carefully unwrap your mummy after removing it from the mandrel tip.
b. Cut the wire off and remove, making sure to not scratch the blades.
c. Using 250 grit sandpaper, bevel the last 5 millimeters of the blank. Make sure that each edge is flat before you go on.
d. Line up the blades and lightly wrap the used thread around to keep it in place (optional, but helpful)
e. Put the cane on the long end of the mandrel.
f. The 3rd wire goes on first: 5 mm from the butt. Make sure to tighten all the way
g. Put the 2nd wire on 17 mm from the butt. Do not tighten all the way, but enough that it doesn’t move.
h. Place the 1st wire as close to 1-5/16 inch from the fold, and again – do not tighten it all the way.
i. Take your pliers and knead the cane that is under the 3rd wire – squeeze the life out of it.
j. Now knead the cane in between the 2nd and 3rd wires.
k. Measure to make sure the wires are still in the right position and tighten the 3rd wire all the way and the 2nd wire a little bit.
l. Trim the 3rd wire, making sure there is just enough left to keep it on the reed.
m. Now is the fun part – gluing! Make sure to glue from right under the 2nd wire until below the 3rd wire. Place on drying rack to cool down. (You're more than welcome to wrap turbans, but be aware that I can in no way help you, as I am HORRIBLE at that task)
