Starting from a Blank!
a. Using your pliers, lift up the first wire (if the black shrink wrap is under it at all).
b. Using your X-Acto knife, CAREFULLY cut along the edge of the wrap (along the seam/side of the reed) and peel off.
c. While the reed is on the long mandrel, cut off the 4th wire.
d. Move the 3rd wire down for stability.
e. Measure from the tip, 2-5/16” (it should be approximately where the 4th wire was before you cut it off). Make a mark here.
f. Making sure your reed is still on the long mandrel, use your X-Acto knife to trim the reed to that 2-5/16” mark.
g. Take the reed off the mandrel and use your coarse file to even out the bottom (in hopes that it will stand mostly on its own).
h. One by one, replace each wire with .22 gauge brass wire. Make sure you put the new wires in the right place (1st, 1-5/16” from tip; 2nd, 17mm from bottom; 3rd, 5mm from bottom)
i. Glue or wrap the reed as you please!
